A woman seizes the opportunity to invest in God’s work by providing shelter for one of God’s called servants. That investment invites God to do some incredible things in her life, starting with getting a child she had always wanted but could never have. In this message, we’ll discover ridiculous faith leads to ridiculous investment in God’s work, and I will introduce something I believe God wants our church to do. Get ready – it’s ridiculous.

Every one of us goes through times when we feel disconnected with God. We go through dry spells and one day we wake up and recognize that we’re not as close to God as we use to be. You don’t lose your salvation, but you do lose the joy of it. You lose the passion. You lose the power. You lose the confidence. You lose the closeness that you felt to God. In this message God uses Elisha to ridiculously recover an ax head that fell in the water. It shows us that we CAN recover our spiritual edge.

A businessman says, “I am so far in a financial hole I can never dig myself out.” A single mother of three works a full time job and cleans houses on the side. She says, “There’s just too much. I don’t have any help; I can’t raise these kids.” A widow about to lose her sons to a debtor was desperate for the prophet's help. Her last possession was a jar of olive oil. Elisha told her to collect as many jars as she could, then God did more than she could imagine. When you find yourself on “empty”, you can experience God’s ridiculous provision when you have ridiculous faith.

How many times have we played the “if only” game? If only I had a better job… If only I had more money… If only God would answer this prayer… Throughout life, we all recognize that we have these needs, and we tend to think "if only" I had whatever it is, life would be so much better. What if we allow those needs to drive us to depend on God? The result could be ridiculous faith. In this message we’ll learn that ridiculous faith not only depends on God, it also depends on us.

What's interesting about Elisha is he was very ordinary. He wasn't the son of a priest, he wasn't a monk, and he wasn't like some sort of outward spiritual giant. He was an ordinary guy who was living at home with his parents, working on a farm when God called him to do something incredible. To answer God’s call, Elisha had to do something very ridiculous. In this message we will discover what we have to do to answer God’s call when it comes.
