THE GOD QUESTIONS
January 6th, 2010
Is God real? Is the Bible true? Do all religions lead to heaven? Why does God allow evil and suffering? This is your opportunity to ask these and other questions you have about God, religion, the church, and Christianity.

A tough question that I have a hard time answering is this: If only Christians go to Heaven… what about those people on small far off islands or tribes in Africa that aren’t Christians??? Do they go to hell b/c they’ve never heard of Jesus? Please advise on an answer to this.
thanks!

God calls every one of us, regardless of culture or religion, to respond to Him. The Bible says in Romans 1 that we are responsible to respond to God at the level of our revelation, and all of us are without excuse. Obviously, a person who has received the full knowledge of Christ has become responsible to the message of Jesus as the Bible reveals. However, a person who does not have an understanding of the message of Christ is only responsible to respond at the level of the revelation received, even if it is limited.
For instance, anyone who has lived in a remote area of the jungle, having never experienced anything beyond ancestor worship or superstitious responses, is still responsible in their heart to respond to God as He has revealed Himself in the created order. This allows them to still come to Christ, even though they have never heard of Christ. They must respond to God as dictated by their own revelation of Him.
It appears then that God has not left himself without a witness, for the book of Romans says that even the created order is a witness of Christ. When people know of Christ, and yet reject Him or the knowledge of Him, they have in effect rejected God’s provision for them.

Bobby: We were out of town last Sunday and missed the sermon. But I was able to listen on line this morning. I was very surprised the Judaism didn’t make the top 10 list? Weren’t you? I tried looking on the website you made reference to, but couldn’t find their membership to see where it ranked in the order based on size.
Just still very surprised they didn’t rank in the top 10!

I attended church this past Sunday with the discussion around WWID. My story starts on Friday when one of my employees was severally injured in a motorcycle accident. My assistant manager went to the hospital to represent our store and be with the associates family. The end result was my associate Chris sadly passed away early saturday morning that sent shock waves through our store impacting everyone who knew him.
So after church I knew who I was giving my wristband (WWID) to, my assistant manager Tommy. While on my way to the store I called Chris’s family to see if there was anything else I could help them with. Chris’s mom asked if I had heard from the local police that was on the seen to see if they had any of Chris’s belongings in particular Chris’s New York Yankees watch that was given to him by his grandmother after his grandfather had passed away 2 years ago. Chris never took that watch off. I told her I would call to see, the tragic accident happened on the street behind my store. I called Officer Greg Tullis to see if the PD had any of Chris’s belongings, he responded no but the wrecker that towed his motorcycle had some of his stuff, I asked for the number, Greg said he would go pick it up and bring it to me athe club. !5 minutes later we were going through Chris’s belongings looking for the beloved watch to no avail. After talikng with Greg and Tommy for about 20 minutes I looked at Tommy and thought WWID. I asked Tommy if had lunch yet which he replied I could use a break right now. I said lets go back to the accident sight and at least look around. We looked for 30 minutes to no avail, we were heading to the truck when Tommy stopped in front of me and bowed his head (said a little prayer) looked up and into the murky water and said what is that silver speck. Greg had combed that area twice. Tommy walked down the concrete embankment where he stopped kneeled down to the water put his hand in and pulled out Chris’s New York Yankees watch. There was a chill that went through body. So it was asked is God real? There are 3 believers that who witnessed a miracle of faith. We called Chris’s mother to let her know that we found his watch bringing some comforting peace to a grieving mother. Tommy’s “agape” for his friend and associate truly represents “W.W.I.D.”
